What an ETB is

An Elite Trainer Box (ETB) is the flagship product of every Pokémon TCG expansion. It comes out the same day as the expansion, with packs from that expansion and accessories to play and store your cards.

It is usually the first thing to sell out in the most wanted expansions, and some special expansions get their own edition.

What's inside

The contents barely change from one expansion to the next:

  • 9 packs from the expansion.
  • 65 sleeves with the expansion's artwork.
  • 45 basic Energy cards and a player's guide.
  • Dice, markers and a coin to play.
  • A box with dividers to store the cards.

The normal price is the median of the shops with stock: half charge more and half charge less. An ETB well below that figure is usually a real deal.

When it's worth it

An ETB costs less than a booster box, but each pack costs more. It pays off if you want the accessories or a gift; if you only want to open packs, a booster box is usually cheaper per pack.

Where to buy it

Every shop has it at a different price. The easiest way is to look it up by expansion and sort by price, or set an alert with your target price and wait.
